The City of Tallahassee's Underground Utilities and Public Infrastructure department is a progressive group operating water, wastewater, stormwater and gas utility systems, as well as public works and transportation infrastructure to serve Florida's seventh largest city.

This job opportunity provides responsible supervisory and professional level office and field work for an engineering specialty area. The primary function is to oversee internal transportation design. Additionally, the selected candidate will lead and manage multiple teams of consultants in the design, permitting, land acquisition and construction of capital improvement projects to improve the transportation network, both vehicular and pedestrian, in Tallahassee, Florida. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level engineering professional or administrator and involves considerable independent judgment in executing program activities.

Essential and Other Important Job Duties:

a. Preparation of transportation capital project design and construction documents; internal designs; permitting; cost estimating; hydraulic modeling; development plans review and site development type designs and review.

b. Negotiating and managing consultant contracts and fees.

c. Coordinating projects with other departments and utility providers.

d. Direct public participation activities.

e. Budget preparation of capital projects.

f. Manage land acquisition processes.

g. Direct local, State and Federal permitting activities.

h. Prepare construction contract documents and assist in securing bids for construction and provide technical assistance during construction.

i. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other governmental agencies and the general public are desired.

Minimum Qualifications and Pay Range Information:

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field and five (5) years of professional experience that includes public works, underground utilities engineering, design of stormwater facilities, or documented experience related to all facets of transportation and site development engineering; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in transportation or site development related engineering, AutoCAD Civil 3D knowledge, permitting and project management capabilities.

Job Based Competencies:

Transportation design, permitting and supervisory skills.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Must possess a valid Class E State driver’s license. Must possess registration as a licensed professional engineer at the time of application. Incumbent must attain a registration as a licensed professional engineer in the State of Florida within one year from date of employment.

Salary Range

$27.03 to $62.08/hourly. Hiring rate generally will not exceed $56.79/hour
